I studied for and passed the A+ certification last summer (2005). I still teach at PCC, computer hardware and programming. I like to play and umpire softball. I also really like to play Civilization IV!

Hi all... wow, it's been... TEN YEARS...
I'm still working in Niceville - love my job.
We're still looking for quality people (when I started
back in December of '03, the office had 7 peopple. A month
later it went down to 6, but now it's up to 10.
Otherwise, life is OK I guess! :)
Hugh Wolfgang <hughwolfgang@valp.net>
[Thu]-[06/01/06]-[20:59:55]
Hi all,
I sure do enjoy seeing what everyone is up to. I am off for the summer (but will be very busy of course). Hi Donna. Greg, I am glad that you learned something useful :-)
Thanks for posting,
Laura <lwhite@uwf.edu>
[Wed]-[05/10/06]-[23:10:20]
In response to Merrick's post back in 98 (hard to believe), I'm still around. I've been out of touch with the rest of the class since returning to Oklahoma City after graduation in 94. I developed for DoD until 96, served as architect for a logistics company until 2000, and now work for Rational Software (acquired by IBM Software Group in 2003) as a technical sales rep. I get to work with a number of large software teams to improve their level of maturity through process and automation. What I learned at UWF around software process, design, and metrics has served me well. I hope some others from 94 find this log. I would love to know what they are up to.
Greg Rader <greg.rader@us.ibm.com>
[Fri]-[02/24/06]-[13:45:28]
Hey, guys. How are you? I can't believe you still have this log. I am back at UWF in the Doctor of Education program and still working for SPAWAR here in Pensacola. Hope to cross paths again soon. :)
Donna Lohr <dml7@students.uwf.edu>
[Thu]-[01/26/06]-[08:42:05]
Laura... Yes, we do C here, on both Intel and Linux systems. Also have some people who do stuff with MATLAB for data analysis and creating test data. I received an e-mail from the person you're referring to, I think, but haven't received the resume yet. We were really swamped this time last year, but it's a bit of a lull right now (actually have time to think about what I'm doing, instead of just doing it!).
Hugh Wolfgang <hughwolfgang@valp.net>
[Mon]-[01/03/05]-[19:31:56]
Hi Hugh!
Your company is actually looking for a C (not C++) programmer? Interesting.
I actually have an absolutely outstanding candidate in mind... a student soon to graduate who lives in Fort Walton Beach. I will pass you email on to him.
Good to hear from you!
Laura
Laura <lwhite@uwf.edu>
[Fri]-[12/24/04]-[21:22:58]
Wow... Switzerland! I'm jealous, Laura! I haven't had a vacation this year, except a weekend trip to see my brother.
By the way, if anyone knows anyone looking for a job (preferrably someone with C experience), send them my way. The company I work for just hired someone, but we've got another opening for a less-experienced person.
Hugh Wolfgang <hughwolfgang@valp.net>
[Mon]-[12/13/04]-[20:40:12]
Hi Laura, it dawned on my today that I should check back here to see if there's any new activity. I finally finished all of my graduate work at Auburn at the end of 2003 and am still teaching and handling some administrative responsibilities. A colleague of mine has recently started into the master's program at UWF and so it's interesting to still hear a few familiar names. I hope you are doing well. Take care.
Tony Pittarese <tony@pittarese.com>
[Wed]-[08/25/04]-[08:48:25]
Hi Tony,
It is good to hear from you. Sorry I hadn't been by in awhile. I was in Switzerland when you posted. My first summer vacation in my adult life! I am going to have to make a habit of that.
What are you up to? Please say hi to Mike for me.
Laura <lwhite@uwf.edu>
[Thu]-[08/12/04]-[20:42:04]
Wandered by here while exploring some pages at UWF and thought I'd jot a note to anyone that happens to see this from SE classes gone by. Except for Mike Geary, who I see regularly, I've lost touch with everyone else. I'd love to hear what everyone is up to.
Tony Pittarese <tony@pittarese.com>
[Mon]-[07/12/04]-[19:55:23]
Okay, long time no updates! If anybody is reading this log, I've finally found my calling, I think. Working in Niceville, in an office with five other people. I've been with the company exactly six months, and love it.
Hugh Wolfgang <hughwolfgang@valp.net>
[Tue]-[06/15/04]-[20:53:36]
Wow. This log does not get much activity as it once did. Anyway, I'm teaching now, part time, for Troy State University (FWB campus). I'm half-way through my third term teaching. Still trying to find stable, full-time employment in the Ft. Walton Beach area, if anyone knows anyone that is hiring! Seems like I'm either under-qualified (for 10+ year experience jobs) or over-qualified (for junior-level jobs) for EVERYTHING :(
Hugh Wolfgang <hughwolfgang@valp.net>
[Thu]-[08/28/03]-[21:17:21]
New email address. If anyone remembers me (the red-headed guy) from back in the late 90s, drop me a line. Party on!
Mike Geary <zorro_02@bellsouth.net>
[Sat]-[06/14/03]-[16:35:53]
Okay, anybody know of anyone in the Ft. Walton Beach area that is hiring software people? The job market over here appears non-existent! :(
Hugh Wolfgang <hughwolfgang@valp.net>
[Mon]-[02/11/02]-[17:02:23]
Hmm... I just added something, and it didn't show up...?
Hugh Wolfgang <hughwolfgang@valp.net>
[Sat]-[02/02/02]-[13:44:37]
Actually I have two websites, Laura. I've had a sports page for a number of years, that's currently hosted by Tripod (http://ctsalabama.tripod.com), and I put up a personal website when Valp got broadband (http://members.valp.net/~hwolfgang). If only I had enough time to maintain them! (that, and a stress-free, high-paying job, and I'd be set lol). Nah, I'd be bored.
Hugh Wolfgang <hughwolfgang@valp.net>
[Sat]-[02/02/02]-[13:43:14]
Wow. I don't believe this communication log is still here. I am still working with the Navy at a command named SPAWAR. We are curring looking for Experienced Java/object oriented programmers to develop user-centered design for a comples, database-driven user interface for a knowledge management portal. Knowledge of Web technologies: COTS software, Web authoring tools, streaming technologies, network and database management, all used for customized Web application, etc. Minimum 3 years current experience a must. Degree preferred. If know of anyone, please send them this way. Also, I ran into Juan two years ago in a target store in Houston. Small world.
Donna Lohr <dlohr@navtap.navy.mil>
[Thu]-[01/17/02]-[09:38:25]
Hi there Hugh,
It is good to hear from you. This log was out of commission for quite some time and I did not realize it until I tried to add something. Do you have a web site?
Have Fun,
Laura <lwhite@uwf.edu>
[Sat]-[01/05/02]-[20:43:51]
Wow,it's been a long time since anybody put anything up here, it seems.
Hard to believe it's 2002. Even harder to believe it's been almost six years since I finished my M.S. at UWF. I'm still living in the local area, though - working for a small (total office has 10 people) company in FWB now, after spending three years on the other side of town. Going from government work to commercial work takes some getting used to, let me tell you.
Hugh Wolfgang <hughwolfgang@valp.net>
[Fri]-[01/04/02]-[20:16:43]
Give me a piece of your mind!
Hi to all you fellow SE grads. I'd like to let you in on a little project of mine. After working with C++
and Ada and running into a lot of the pitfalls and land mines with them, I figured the world could use
yet another programming language by yet another amateur language designer.
The idea actually sparked from one of Dr. Rodgers' assignments for Programming Languages class. He asked
us to describe what we thought would be the perfect programming language. Now, three years later, I
haven't been able to get that question out of my head.
See my results so far at www.stevedwire.com/steve/graam. I would
welcome any feedback. I want to make this language as close to perfect as is humanly possible, and to do
that, I need your help!.
I know that we graduates of the Software Engineering program at UWF received a lot of great training, and
I know that the rest of you have some perspectives on software engineering and program design that I
simply do not have. How many times have you said, "I wish they would have asked my opinion when they made
this decision"? This is your chance to impact the design of a language still in its infancy. I'm
asking your opinion!
One of the things I'm trying to avoid with graam is the kind of error that silently produces incorrect
code. For example, this C snippet has two common errors that compile just fine, but are usually not what
the programmer expects:
if (x = 5);
{
DoSomething();
}
Sure, lint would find them, but who uses lint regularly, and why should we have to? I would love for
someone to find similar land mines in graam. My goal is to make safe programming easy but still make it
possible to do things I didn't anticipate.
As I said, graam is still in its infancy, so the information at my site is still pretty sketchy. I don't
expect graam to displace C++ in the entire industry (at least not any time soon), but with your
help, it just might become the perfect language for you.

Hello All,
A voice that has been silent for a while now speaks. I have been without internet service for a while, but no more.
I have been perusing the log and have found many things have happened while I have "been away". It great to see many familiar names -- by the way, congratulations Matt and Gena.
I am still in the federal government application process which could still take another 10 months. I passed my first round of testing back in January and am now about half way through the process. I am still taking care of the WPCS/RBN radio station computers and have even taken on additional responsibilities which have been causing many hours of overtime. For the time being, I will continue to play the "hurry up and wait" game with the government.
Another goal of this entry is to provide everyone with my permanent e-mail address. My UWF address is no longer valid so please note the new address below -- it will be great to hear from some familiar folks. I had better close before this turns into a novel.
Robert Penley <skippytk@bigfoot.com>
[Sat]-[04/03/99]-[11:00:57]
Just letting you know that I have had an email address change. Laura asked me to do this in different colors, but I have become lazy. :-) I keep in contact with Tony often (soon to be Dr. Pittarese). This starts my fifth year of teaching at PCC, and I am contemplating taking a few more classes at UWF this summer/fall in preparation for possible doctoral work myself.

Got the following this morning:
To modest fanfare and no small amount of gnashing
of teeth, Anna Katherine Stucky entered
the world Monday 2/15/99 at a robust 8 lbs 4 ounces.
Mother and baby are both doing fine at St Francis
Women's Family Hospital, 125 Commonwealth Dr.,
Greenville. Jena and Anna will be home from the
hospital Wednesday afternoon.

Hi!
I got my BS in CIS in 1994. I am currently working for Shell Exploration
and Production, a division of Shell Oil Company. I recently got married (1997)
and moved from Houston to New Orleans so that my wife could finish her collge degree
in a Louisana college (avoiding out-of-state tuition.)I have been in New Orleans
since July of 1997.
I have done mostly Visual Basic development for the past 3 years with some Oracle,
and MS SQL Server database work thrown in. I have managed small software development projects
for about 10 months now.
I used to work with quite a few UWF grads in Houston (Tracy Stiner, Jeremy Kingry,
Steve Baxter, Ricardo Gentile, Steve Arnold, etc.) but, I have yet to meet any UWF
grads in New Orleans.
It's sad to hear of Jeremy Jones' death. I took the Jones Trilogy
(Assembler, Data Structures and Opp. Sys.) he had some very unusual
teaching methods, but I always learned a great deal from his classes.
And what happened to S(t)allin?

Hey gang!
Does anyone read this anymore? :)
I'm now chairman of the Software Engineering Process Group
at MTI. Can anyone give me any ideas on how to get programmers
who are used to doing things the old way (i.e. the "hacker" mentality)
to do things the RIGHT way? We're trying to acheive CMM Level III
and we're Level I right now.
Happy Holidays!

hey! does anybody beside me still check in on this page once
in a while? hellllloooooooo.
anyway, for those of you who can't get enough geeking
in, here is a handy link to get your fix. It is
NASA's
software enginnering page, and the document probably most
interesting there is the "Recommended Approach to Software
Development, Revision 3." It is a 200+ page .pdf document.
Looks to be mostly about Ada in a Flight Dynamics
environment (go figure!) but it is still full of
great stuff.
Finally selling my house in Pcola. Oh, and looking
at opening a computer/technical bookstore here in
Greenville. Would love any comments anyone has.

Hello ALL: I am finally on-board at Shell Services
International in Houston. I am currently working on
wireless data retreival technology for some clients
and love it. I work 80 hours in 9 days and get every

updates so I can reconstruct my e-mail directory!

Good to hear from Gus and some others I remember. Life here at Auburn can be best described by one word--HOT! After over a decade in Pensacola I thought I was used to the heat, but 100 degrees+ and no wind makes Pensacola seem like the North. Gus, as far as the "Dr. Pittarese" stuff--that's going to be a while--probably 2002 at the earliest, so I'm going to wait a while before printing the new business cards. Classes at Auburn are great and the things I took at UWF (thanks to Laura, John Coffey, Dr. Wilde, and the late Jeremy Jones) were good preparation. Auburn has a strong program and I'd really recommend it to anyone considering graduate (or undergraduate) work.
Today in a class we were talking about instrumenting source code in software visualization environments. I started having severe Recon flashbacks. I think I'll go lie down now...

Going after a PhD is adventageous, in some respects, but
it's a lot of trouble. And as Laura once told me, there's
more to life than school. Of course when I have weeks like
last week at work, and mornings like this... I miss my
college days! (Did I actually say that?)
Seriously, though, I've been to Greenville, SC. Nice place
to visit, but I don't remember anything about it - it was
1984 when I was there. I've been working for MTI now for
just over two months, and have already changed buildings!
But at least now I'm in the same building as the
folks I'm working with - I think :)

HELP! It's a trap...turn around...go back...stay in school!
M-F on the road in Winston-Salem installing a loan processing system. Yes, it is COBOL based and yes, it is "BIG IRON" (mainframe). Next month starting another project in Minneapolis.
As long as I can fly home to Sarasota every weekend I'll be happy. I'll never go after a PhD...but it will be cool to say "Dr. Pittarese, I presume" the next time I see Tony.

Hey everyone!
Got my first 3 weeks in Greenville SC under my belt - am project lead on a data warehouse design-built-implement 3 yr project. For anyone who needs work, and likes small towns but wants someplace with more opportunity than Pcola, Greenville is the place. Jena and I have to sell our house (anyone interested?) and then we are gone for good.
As always, my email is the only address I have that hasn't changed in the past 4 years.
take care yall!

I am working for Motorola in Chicago now. I love it! It's a
great company - excellent salary, benefits (exceptionally good),
and they have a great attitude toward employees - they really
care if you're happy or not. As a matter of fact.... They
give a hefty bonus if current employees pull in future employees,
