My Naval Career
Joined the Navy in 1972. Served at the following commands in the capacity noted.
1972: Boot Camp, Orlando Florida.
In the first company of women to go through Boot Camp in Orlando. Meritoriously advanced to SA for academic achievement.
1972-1974 Fleet Support Office, Athens, Greece.
On-the-job training to become a Photographers Mate.
1974-1976: VA-42 Virginia Beach, VA.
Photo Lab.
1976-1981: NAS Pensacola, Pensacola, FL.
Worked at the photo lab, until it was time to reinlist, when I had to choose a new rate, due to overmanning. Chose the TD rate and worked at Training Support Department on the NFO trainer (ID23), Intermediate Maintenance, and as Departmental Career Counselor. Applied for the Enlisted Commissioning Program, and was selected.
1981-1984: University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM.
Obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering.
1984-1984: Officer Candidate School, Newport, RI.
1984-1985: Surface Warfare School, Coronado, California.
1985-1988: USS Acadia (AD-42) - Homport San Diego, CA.
Communications Officer / Electronics Material Officer
Auxiliaries Officer.
Qualified Officer of the Deck (OOD) and Surface Warfare Officer (SWO)
Two deployments to Westpac. During 2nd deployment, we were diverted to Bahrain, to repair the Stark.
1988-1990: Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA.
Obtained a Master's Degree in Computer Science.
Recevied the RADM Grace Hopper Award.
Taught for one quarter after graduation.
1990-1990: Surface Warfare Department Head School, Newport, RI.
1990-1992: USS Puget Sound (AD 37) - Homport, Norfolk, VA.
Chief Engineer
Deployed for Desert Storm.
Retired November 1992.
